Swollen legs are a common symptom in our daily lives, especially in the elderly or those who have to stand or sit for long hours. Swollen legs may start at the ankles and gradually spread to the calves and thighs. In some cases, the entire leg may swell, causing discomfort.

Although leg swelling may not seem serious, it can actually be a sign of an underlying health problem. Therefore, it is not advisable to ignore this symptom. 

How can we notice symptoms of swollen feet?

  • The dimples are clearly visible when shoes or socks are removed.
  • There is tightness in the feet and the wrinkles of the skin disappear.
  • I put on shoes and they’re tight. I put on pants and they’re stuck to my legs.
  • Press your finger on the inside of your shin and it will make an indentation and will not bounce back.

Swollen legs and feet indicate the following diseases:

Deep vein thrombosis. Deep vein thrombosis in the legs can be caused by a number of things, such as a blood clot or a foreign object that presses on the vein, ยูฟ่าเบท, causing abnormal blood flow back to the heart. Blood can become trapped in the legs, causing swelling and potentially leading to more serious symptoms.

Blocked lymph nodes. Swollen legs or feet are an early sign of blocked lymph nodes, especially if the swelling is only on one side, which is the most prominent symptom of this condition. If you notice these symptoms, you should see a doctor immediately, as they could be an indication of other serious diseases.

A leg or foot infection may seem minor, but if left untreated, it can lead to serious complications. Athlete’s foot is a bacterial infection that can spread through a cut or abrasion. The infected area will appear swollen, red, warm, and painful. If not treated promptly, this condition can spread and cause a bloodstream infection.

Hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid is caused by a decrease in the production of thyroid hormones, which causes the body’s systems to stagnate. Common symptoms include feeling cold easily, fatigue, and constipation. You may also experience swelling in your legs and face. If left untreated, it can lead to more serious complications.
